In Remembrance


Lorenzo Orozco Sr.
August 10, 1923 – May 17, 2009 Lorenzo Orozco, Sr., 85, of Austin, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2009. A Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. A funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Somerville. A graveside service will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Somerville. Lorenzo was born on August 10, 1923, in Washington County, Texas. After serving in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II, he returned home to Washington County where he met his wife-to-be, Juanita Perez Orozco. During their marriage of almost 58 years, they raised six children together. After moving to Austin with his young family in 1965, he worked for more than 23 years for Centex Plating. In his retirement, he loved to garden, watch Astros baseball, and most of all, spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a man of deep faith and a long-time parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church in Austin. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Abraham Orozco, of Bryan and George Orozco, of Somerville; and by his sister, Atanasia Orozco, of Bryan. Survivors include his wife, Juanita Orozco, of Austin; children, Mary Irene Negrete and husband, Refugio J.A., of Austin, Rose Linda Ochoa and husband, John Jr., of Houston, Theresa Guerrant and husband, William B. III, of Austin, Daniel Orozco, of Austin, Martha Orozco and Rebecca Robertson, of Houston, Lorenzo Orozco Jr. and wife Ann, of Austin; grandchildren, Jennifer Nicole Negrete and Kristofor D. Fry, of Austin, George Louis Negrete, of Austin, John Z. Ochoa III, of Houston, David Orozco Ochoa, of Lawrence, Kan., Stephanie Michelle Guerrant, Lauren Marie Guerrant and Emma Mizoue Orozco, all of Austin; great-grandchildren, Julia Megan Cerda, Jaye Isabella Cerda and Adriana Michelle Negrete, all of Austin. Pallbearers will be Paul Vega, Pete Orozco, Chris Arredondo, Joseph Orozco, Robert Orozco, Daniel Portales Jr., John A. Orozco, Frank Maldonado Jr., Robert Robledo and David Garcia, Jr.
